Master, whose real name is unknown, is the owner of the bar Cha-Cha Maru (茶々丸) where Akemi works and the tenants of Maison Ikkoku go to drink other than Godai’s room.
Biography[]
He's a reserved, easy going guy, who occasionally acts as the voice of reason and gets involved in Godai and Kyoko's "relationship" by taking it upon himself to set things right, as the other tenants of Maison Ikkoku (Akemi, Mrs. Ichinose, Yotsuya) whom he finds cold-hearted, are not reliable especially for drinking too much.
Once, one of the local businessmen issues him a baseball challenge of his own team of shopkeepers versus whoever he can find, and the winner gets to have a huge party with all the food and drink paid for by the loser. Master saw this as an opportunity to really cash in on the aging businessmen and gets many recruits including the tenants of Maison Ikkoku resulting in a ragtag team which nevertheless wins the game, although the losing team order only the cheapest beer and snacks, which doesn't help Master to earn much money at all.[1]
He tolerates Akemi's obvious incompetence as a waitress because his feelings for her are more than just that of a boss to an employee. At the end of the series, he tells Akemi that he has just gotten divorced and proposes to her.
